Brazil: Potato prices rise with rains and the end of the harvest.

Most of the supply comes from southern Minas Gerais and southwestern São Paulo.

This week (November 3-7), the average price of the Agata special potato was R$ 46.15/25kg sack in the São Paulo wholesale market (+15.7%), R$ 43.07/sack in Rio de Janeiro (+4.5%) and R$ 43.33/sack in Belo Horizonte (+10.9%).

The increase is due to the rains earlier in the week, which hampered harvesting in the producing areas, thus reducing the supply to wholesalers. Even after the rains and with the resumption of agricultural work, prices remained stable due to the smaller area available for harvesting: the winter crop is coming to an end and there is still no supply from the rainy season.

The market has been supplied mainly from southern Minas Gerais, where the harvest is in full swing, from southwestern São Paulo, which also has a high supply, as well as from the Cerrado Mineiro and Chapada Diamantina regions.
