Brazil: The increase in the price of potatoes is recorded after Easter.

Prices continue to rise due to lower supply as the harvest slows.

This week (April 6-10), prices for Agata specialty potatoes averaged R$ 70.21/25kg sack in the São Paulo wholesale market (+17.2%), R$ 75.00/sack in Rio de Janeiro (+28.4%) and R$ 75.90/sack in Belo Horizonte (+23.7%).

On Good Friday (April 3), the demand for potatoes was higher, and as the harvest pace was slower due to the holiday, there were fewer surpluses in wholesale markets over the weekend.

In addition, with the most intense supply during the past week (except for Friday), there were fewer areas available to harvest this week, which, combined with the rains that hampered harvesting, resulted in a lower supply.

In recent days, especially since Wednesday the 8th, the supply has stabilized and prices have decreased compared to the beginning of the period, but they are still higher than the previous week.

The producing areas that currently supply are those of the South region (Guarapuava/PR, Água Doce/SC and Bom Jesus/RS), the Cerrado and Sul de Minas regions of Minas Gerais and the Chapada Diamantina (BA).
