Cuba: Potato harvest begins in Ciego de Avila

The agricultural company La Cuba has started the potato harvest in Ciego de Ávila, which will gradually extend to various state and rural production units in the province.

Residents of the capital of Ciego de Ávila receive the first shipments that will gradually arrive at state agricultural markets throughout the province, where the sought-after product will be sold in a rationed manner.

Some 900 hectares were planted in the province with national and imported seeds in response to the challenge of increasing yields due to high prices on the international market for essential inputs for root vegetable production.

The potatoes that are already being harvested in Ciego de Ávila will also reach the population of other territories, industry, social programs and tourism, and other levels will be saved as seed for the next campaign.
