Pakistán: Maximum tax for farmers should be equal to that for traders
According to Provincial Agriculture Minister Dr Farukh Javed the ceiling rate of agriculture income tax should be enhanced from Rs 80,000 to Rs 400,000, equal to the traders’ community.
He stated that his government would try to end the current general sales tax (GST) of 7 percent on agriculture inputs to facilitate small farmers.
The minister was delivering the concluding speech in the Punjab Assembly after completion of the two-day general discussion on agriculture and sugarcane farmers’ problems.
Dr Javed told the House that his government had already distributed 30,000 tractors to farmers on a 50 percent subsidy and now it would provide other equipment used in the agriculture sector at the same rate.
The provincial minister said that the farmers had food security in potato crops and now arrangements are being made to export potato from the Okara region to Russia and other countries.
