Francia: Potato market is facing challenges
Touquet Savour is a big player on the French potato market. The company represents 30 producers and annually produces 25,000 tonnes of potatoes.
Alexis Dequidt, from Touquet Savour: “Like in the Netherlands, the French potato market has been facing some difficulties this campaign, for different reasons. Firstly, last year’ oversupply has lowered the prices. Secondly, the potato consumption has reached a lower level. This has to do with a decreasing popularity of the ware potato in general.”
The history of Touquet Savour is closely related to the variety Ratte du Touquet. This old potato variety was already known in 1922 and has been important to the company from the start in 1991. Over the last fifty years the variety has taken up an important market position and today it is sold in half of the French food stores. Other important varieties for the company are the Pompadour Label Rouge and Princesse Amandine. The main production area is located in Picardy, France.
