Spain: Galician potato with IXP seal, named the fifth best in the world in quality
The Galician potato with the IXP seal has been ranked fifth worldwide in the prestigious ranking published by the prestigious travel website TasteAtlas.

TasteAtlas has published its ranking of the best potatoes in the world and, for the second year in a row, Greek Nevrokopi potatoes take the number 1 spot with a score of 4.5 out of 5.
Canada’s Yukon Gold and Colombia’s Criolla potatoes are next in line.
The Galician Pataca, with a score of 4.2, occupies a creditable fifth place and its soil and climate conditions stand out to ensure correct development and superior characteristics in terms of gastronomic quality.
"This Galician potato is round or oval in shape, with smooth, light yellow skin and white flesh. After cooking, it acquires a creamy texture and is very tasty," say the experts on this website visited by millions of people around the world.
In a statement, the IXP Regulatory Council based in Xinzo de Limia remarked that “The TasteAtlas ranking confirmed what we already knew: Pataca de Galicia is an authentic treasure! With its unique flavor, creamy texture and exceptional quality, it is ranked 5th in the world among the best varieties. A pride for our land and for all of you who are committed to local products. “An anaco do corazón gives us land in every bite!”
90% of the annual production of potatoes with a European seal stood out among more than fifty varieties of tuber analysed by the publication, which analyses and assesses the quality and flavour of different foods, restaurants and other aspects linked to food and hospitality.
The average sales figure for the best Galician potato, which covers the entire Galician territory, although based on what is harvested in the A Limia plain, is around 6 million kilos.
This international recognition will boost sales and the already notable prestige enjoyed by the best potato in Galicia.
