Europe: Potato prices for industrial use fall in Belgium, Holland and Germany
Last Friday, March 7, prices for industrial potatoes in Northern Europe registered general declines in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, compared to the previous week.

In Belgium, Belgapom, the association of the Belgian potato processing and trading industry, has set a price of €17.5/100kg excluding VAT for Fontane and Challenger varieties intended for the frozen potato industry. The market is calm because the supply of both varieties is equal to or greater than demand. The price is down €2.5/100kg compared to the previous week.
The Walloon potato interprofessional Fiwap has also set a price of €17.5/100 kg for both Fontane and Challenger varieties. This is also a €2.5/100 kg drop compared to the previous week.
In the Netherlands, prices for French fries ranged from €20 to €32/100 kg, compared with €27 to €35/100 kg the previous week, according to PotatoNL, the Dutch potato trade association.
In Germany, the Fontane/Challenger industrial varieties were quoted at €17.5/100kg, Agria at €22/100kg and Innvator at €25/100k. Fontane/Challenger was down €2.5/100kg compared with the previous week, while the other two varieties were down €3/100kg, according to Reka Rheinland, the Rhineland Potato Growers’ Association.
