Brazil: Bem Brasil optimizes the storage of 500,000 tons of frozen foods annually with Mecalux
The producer of pre-fried potatoes and dehydrated flakes, a national leader in the sector, exports to South America, the United States, Mexico, Taiwan, and Singapore.
The company has built two clad-rack warehouses with Mecalux and streamlined its logistics with Easy WMS software and the automatic Pallet Shuttle system.
Bem Brasil , a leading producer of frozen French fries in Brazil, has strengthened its logistics capacity with the construction of two clad-rack Mecalux warehouses at its Perdizes plant in Minas Gerais. Equipped with the automatic Pallet Shuttle system with stacker crane and managed by the Easy WMS warehouse management software, both ensure the efficient storage and dispatch of 500,000 tons of frozen food per year.
In a country with 211 million inhabitants, Bem Brasil covers up to 55% of the national demand for products such as smiling potatoes ( carinhas ) and onion rings, among other specialties. It also exports to South America and to Taiwan, Singapore, the United States, and Mexico, where it maintains a commercial partnership with the supermarket chain Walmart. “Mecalux solutions give us total control over stored products, which translates into agile, secure, and profitable logistics,” says Célio Zero, its Director of Operations.
The automation of the Bem Brasil plant, which has reached a logistics capacity of 66,000 pallets with the construction of two Mecalux clad-rack warehouses, has contributed to the company’s 10% increase in production and 30% in revenue over the last year. Inside, at -25°C, the automatic Pallet Shuttle system autonomously loads and unloads merchandise. The storage and production areas are connected by conveyors that ensure the uninterrupted delivery of raw materials and finished products. This robotic infrastructure allows the company to be more energy efficient and even eliminate the need for lighting during operations.
Bem Brasil guarantees the quality and traceability of its frozen products thanks to Easy WMS, which monitors the incoming, outgoing, and dispatch of products in real time. Mecalux’s logistics software applies the FEFO strategy, which prioritizes the dispatch of items with the closest expiration date and ensures optimal stock rotation, reducing food waste.
