Potato producers are warning of the ridiculously low prices of processing potatoes on the market. However, these prices do not apply to the vast majority of potatoes processed by the agri-food industry.
Potato growers fear a price collapse. According to some forecasts, 8.5 million tonnes of potatoes could be harvested this year, 2025.
"This is the worst year since 2001, and certainly the worst year of my career," says one farmer.
HALLE – This year’s potato harvest is excellent. But it’s not exactly satisfying for potato growers. Farmers can’t sell their potatoes and are left with their spuds.
The hardest hit sector was potato farming, considered the economic engine of many families in the region.
