Brazil: General analysis of producing regions and market dynamics during the second quarter of 2026.

The current regional landscape has created a scenario of rising prices, but with strict selectivity on the part of buyers.

The equilibrium of the potato market in Brazil is determined by a complex mechanism: the seasonality of the producing regions. In April 2026, the national scenario directly reflects the operating conditions of specific centers, where the weather and the stage of harvest determine the final price in the  Wholesale Markets (CEASA)  .

The supply map: regional performance

To understand current prices, it is necessary to look at the status of the main harvest fronts that are currently supporting the supply:

Southern Axis (Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul)

Southern Brazil is going through a period of agricultural transition. In the markets of Guarapuava (PR), Água Doce (SC), and the centers of Rio Grande do Sul, the summer harvest is coming to an end.

  • The bottleneck: Sporadic rain has hampered machinery access to the field and, consequently, the continuation of the washing process.
  • The consequence: This disruption in the pace of supply is the main factor driving the price increase of the product in the main consumption centers of the Southeast, since the South is a pillar of volume for the national market.

Minas Gerais (Cerrado and Southern Minas)

Minas Gerais will be the decisive factor in April.

  • Cerrado Mineiro: The region maintains a high standard of quality, offering Agata type potatoes that reach the best prices on the market.
  • Southern Minas Gerais: With the end of the rainy season harvest, supply tends to gradually decrease. Producers in Minas Gerais have taken advantage of the dry periods to sell their products, thus maintaining the supply of high-value-added goods to Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro.

Chapada Diamantina (Bahia)

Bahia consolidates its strategic importance for the balance between regions. Thanks to a well-distributed production calendar and intensive use of irrigation, the Chapada Diamantina region has guaranteed a constant flow of potatoes to the Northeast market and, in times of scarcity, sends surpluses to the Southeast, thus mitigating extreme price increases.

Comparison with the national market: prices and quality

The current regional landscape has created a scenario of  rising prices  , but with strict selectivity on the part of buyers.

Price dynamics at CEASA

In the first half of April, the Agata potato variety recorded robust average yields:

  • São Paulo (Capital): R$ 70.21/sc
  • Rio de Janeiro: R$ 75.00/sc
  • Belo Horizonte: R$ 75.90/sc

This increase is not only due to volume, but also to the opportune timing of the market. The convergence of a slower harvest in the south (due to rain and holidays) and increased seasonal demand (Easter) generated positive pressure on prices for producers who were able to sell their products.

Selectivity and classification standard

A crucial aspect observed in the national landscape is the disparity between "special Agata" potatoes and "common" potatoes. While the former are reaching record levels, potatoes with skin problems or smaller size are finding it difficult to sell. The national market indicates that, during periods of high prices, tolerance for a lack of standardization is minimal, forcing producers to invest increasingly more in grading technology.

Potato season in Brazil

The current scenario shows that potato production indices in Brazil have reached a level of maturity where managing the timing of the harvest is as important as productivity. The outlook for producing regions in April 2026 reveals a sector that, despite logistical challenges imposed by the weather in the south, manages to self-regulate through production diversification in Minas Gerais and Bahia. For producers, the current situation demands close attention to the supply schedules of competing markets to maximize profitability during these periods of favorable prices.
