Argelia (Mostaganem): "Record" yield recorded for the potato harvest
The province of Mostaganem recorded a "record" yield for the harvest of early and seasonal potatoes for the 2024-2025 agricultural season, the wilaya services indicated on Tuesday.

The same source specifies that the harvest, which began at the end of March, continues with a yield exceeding 400 quintals per hectare, particularly in the fields and farms of the Bouguirat plateau.
Farmers and producers in the province intensified harvesting operations on Tuesday, following the events of the previous two days, when some speculators and instigators tried to dissuade them from supplying local and regional markets, under the pretext of falling prices and the abundance of this widely consumed commodity, the same source added.
The area harvested to date has reached 2,300 hectares, or 23% of the total planted area estimated at 10,012 hectares, according to the local agricultural services department.
The quantities sold to various local and regional markets across 25 wilayas exceeded 874,000 quintals, and forecasts predict a production exceeding 3.2 million quintals by the end of the harvest season, next June, adds the same source.
The potato harvest for seed multiplication will begin in May. This crop has been planted on an area of 114 hectares, with an expected production of more than 28,000 quintals of seeds, intended to cover farmers’ needs for the late production season.
