Spain: Potatoes remain the country’s most imported vegetable.

Imports of fresh fruits and vegetables grew by 9% in volume and 14% in value in the first half of 2025, reaching 2.4 million tons and 2.956 billion euros.

Potatoes maintain their leadership in the Spanish import market for fresh fruits and vegetables. Between January and June 2025, foreign purchases of this tuber reached 737,480 tons, representing a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. However, their economic value decreased by the same proportion, closing the semester at €306 million.

Overall, Spanish imports of fresh fruits and vegetables continued the upward trend of recent years. In the first half of the year, volume reached 2.4 million tons, 9% more than in 2024, while value rose to €2.956 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of 14%.

Vegetables totaled 1.2 million tons (up 11%) and €897 million (up 6%). Onions were the second most imported product, with 121,360 tons (up 32%) and €70 million (up 14%).

Regarding fruits, bananas maintained their leadership in volume with 211,288 tons, followed by avocados, which stood out as the most imported fruit in value.
