Peru (Chocobamba): Producers sell more than five tons of native potatoes for export
The Chocobamba Producers Association, in the Churubamba district, completed the sale of more than 5 tons of native yellow Tumbay potatoes to the Al Campo Food company, as part of the Native Potato Project.

The product will be processed and exported as frozen potatoes, thus opening new international markets for Huánuco farmers.
Thanks to the collaboration of project specialists, potatoes were sold at S/3.50 per kilo, almost double the farmgate price, which is usually around S/1.80. “We used to sell our potatoes at very low prices. Today, thanks to the project, we can access better markets and get a fair price. This means more income and hope for our families,” said Adrián Huaranga, a member of the association.
Governor Antonio Pulgar emphasized the significance of the achievement. "With this result, we reaffirm that Huánuco’s native potato is not only a source of regional pride, but also a product of export quality. Our commitment is to continue supporting farmers so that more families can access national and international markets," he stated.
For her part, the Regional Director of Agriculture, Vilmia Saldívar del Águila, emphasized that this progress is the result of a joint effort between producers, specialists, and authorities. "The Native Potato Project is demonstrating that our agrodiversity can compete globally, generating sustainable development in Huánuco," she stated.
This important step strengthens the rural family economy, creates new income opportunities, and consolidates Huánuco as a national and international benchmark in native potato production, bringing mountain farmers to global markets with a high-quality, value-added product.
