Peru: Producers from five regions of Huánuco will export native potatoes to the United States.

Governor Antonio Pulgar emphasized that this result is the result of collaborative work with the producing families. "Huánuco can compete with quality in international markets."

Huánuco’s agricultural production continues to make inroads into international markets. The Native Potato Project, promoted by the Huánuco Regional Government (Gorehco), completed the sale of more than 30 tons of Tumbay yellow potatoes to Alcampo Foods, which will process the tuber into frozen potatoes for final shipment to the United States. This achievement marks an important step forward in the direct marketing of high-quality Andean crops.

The production comes from farmers benefiting from the project in the districts of Huácar, Yacus, Yarumayo, Churubamba, and San Francisco de Mosca, who have strengthened their capacities thanks to technical assistance and ongoing support from specialists. This support has improved cultivation, selection, and post-harvest processes, raising standards to meet international market requirements.

Governor Antonio Pulgar emphasized that this result is the result of collaborative work with family farmers. "Huánuco can compete with quality in international markets. With projects like Papa Nativa, we generate real opportunities for our farmers and strengthen the rural economy," he stated.

Regional Director of Agriculture Vilmia Saldívar de Águila noted that this progress consolidates the efforts of the organized associations. "Seeing our producers exporting their native potatoes fills us with pride and motivates us to continue supporting regional agriculture," she said.

For farmers, this step represents a milestone. “Before, we only sold in the local market, now our potatoes will arrive in the United States. We got a fair price and improved our production,” said Erik Martel Morales, a producer from Huácar.
