Spain: The potato harvest in Lanzarote benefits from the rains
The rains of the last few weeks have provided a respite for the agricultural sector.
The recent rains in Lanzarote have brought a breath of fresh air to local agriculture, especially regarding the potato harvest. According to Noly Peraza, a farmer from Los Valles, the rainfall has been crucial in saving the crops planted during September and October, as well as preparing the land for new plantings to be carried out soon.
In addition to ensuring current production, these rains are motivating farmers to expand their cultivated areas, driven by a more optimistic outlook than in previous seasons. This provides a welcome respite for the sector, which has seen potato production on the island decline in recent years, primarily due to challenging conditions in the fields and persistent water scarcity.
