Bolivia: In Huarina, the harvest doubles and potato production improves
The mayor of this municipality, Wilson Mamani, reported that the achievement is the result of the support of President Luis Arce, who invested in the technological irrigation system program.

Through the application of technical irrigation promoted by the national government, potato production in the La Paz municipality of Huarina has doubled and improved, reported the mayor of this town, Wilson Mamani.
Huarina is located in the Omasuyos province, west of the department of La Paz, where instead of harvesting potatoes once a year, they now do it twice.
The mayor of this municipality, Wilson Mamani, reported that thanks to the support of President Luis Arce, who invested in the technologically advanced irrigation system program, Huarina can now harvest potatoes twice a year and improve its production.
“Before we only waited for the rainy season to sow, but with the system we no longer have to, now we have early sowing,” the mayor told Ahora El Pueblo.
The first sowing is done between March and April and the second from July to August. “In December, the fruits for the local market are seen,” Mamani said.
Huarina is not only a potato producer, but also a dairy and fish farmer, and in these four years its population has improved its quality of life not only because of the increase in the potato harvest, but also because the Government carried out other works such as drinking water, they have support in fodder and other works, Mamani explained.
"The President did a lot for La Paz (...) In Huarina, for example, with the works carried out, people are no longer leaving, in fact the population has grown and that is why it is important to support the permanence of our brother President for another five years, because when another government comes all these works will stop," he said.
Agroinputs
In 2024, the Head of State delivered six important works in Huarina, including the Agroinput Plant to strengthen food production.
The president hopes that this municipality, like other towns in La Paz, will fully enter the era of industrialization.
Other works delivered in the previous administration include 56 social housing units for families in Huarina, the Utavi Antacollo Irrigation System, improvements to the drinking water system and a modern educational unit in Copancara.
“We are also working with the President to manage the sewage system, we already have drinking water, and with that, Huarina will improve even more,” Mamani added.
