World French Fries Day: A must-have in Argentine homes
A BMS study revealed that 77% of Argentinians include potato chips in their next snack purchase, cementing their place as one of the country’s favorites.

From homemade versions to packaged classics, potato chips are one of the most deeply rooted foods in Argentine popular culture. As part of this classic, which combines flavor and convenience, World Potato Day is celebrated on August 20th.
Their essence is simple yet powerful: to accompany everyday moments and share. Thanks to their versatility, they adapt to different occasions, whether it’s an impromptu snack, a meal, or a treat to break up the week. In Argentina, 66% prefer to enjoy them at home, and 64% prefer to do so especially in the afternoon or evening.
Over time, potato chips have evolved and gained prominence as a snack, offering practical formats and a variety of flavors that adapt to new consumption patterns.
"It’s a source of great pride that, for 46% of Argentinians, the first snack brand that comes to mind when thinking about the category is Lay’s," said PepsiCo Argentina. "This year, we added the gluten-free seal to our entire portfolio, a new development that directly responds to consumer needs and reinforces our commitment to an increasingly accessible offering for everyone," they added.
Potato chips are not just a treat, but a must-have in shopping plans: according to a recent study, 8 out of 10 shoppers plan their purchases of salty snacks, and 91% actually follow through, thus consolidating the role of this food in the Argentine routine.
In addition, almost half of consumers (47%) choose potato chips as their favorite snack on weekends, reaffirming their place in moments of enjoyment and reunion, when the table becomes the center of conviviality.
