Argentina: Habemus Papas II, Mendoza’s proposal to celebrate International Potato Day

The event will take place over two days: one dedicated to scientific and technical activities and the other focused on gastronomy, with Luján and the Uco Valley as the setting.

As part of the International Potato Day celebrations, the province of Mendoza will hold a special event called “Habemus Papas II.” This initiative aims to combine the scientific development of potato cultivation with a regional gastronomic experience.

The main purpose is to promote potato cultivation as a key strategic element to diversify production in the region.

The event will be divided into two days. On Friday, May 29, a scientific and technical conference will be held at the INTA Mendoza headquarters (located at Acceso Sur and Aráoz, Luján de Cuyo) from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During this session, the official launch of the Mendoza Potato Cluster will take place, marking a significant milestone in the local agricultural sector.

On Saturday, May 30, the activities will move to Estancia Atamisque, located in La Carrera, Tupungato, starting at 11:00 AM. This day will focus on highlighting the potato as a gastronomic and sustainability symbol within the regional cuisine.

A space for technical knowledge and the potato cluster

The technical conference, aimed at experts and stakeholders in the agricultural sector, will offer presentations on the latest trends in Latin America and the world, as well as sessions focused on regenerative agriculture. It will feature prominent speakers from Peru, Ecuador, and Argentina.

There will also be dialogue sessions to explore topics such as the competitive advantages that Mendoza offers for potato cultivation, the current state of production and marketing for both fresh consumption and industry, and Andean varieties.

The book launch for "Andean Potatoes and Quinoa" will also take place, along with a culinary masterclass followed by a themed lunch. Additionally, dedicated spaces will be available for interaction between companies and institutions in the agricultural sector.

The gastronomic proposal

On Saturday, the experience will be enhanced with talks led by experts from INTA, the Simplot company, and the International Potato Center. Simultaneously, a dozen guest chefs will offer a variety of culinary preparations focused on Andean potatoes.

The offering will include a fair featuring local producers, a selection of regional wines, and the unparalleled appeal of the surrounding mountain landscapes.

Both days have a fee. Those interested can find more information on Instagram at @estancia.atamisque or make reservations through the corresponding link.
