Gran Bretaña: Scottish potato production higher than GB’s
While there has been a 5 percent drop in UK potato production this year, Scottish growers experienced a much better season, with production up over 9 percent on the previous year.

Scottish yields were larger than the GB average this year at 46.4 tons per hectare, while GB’s was 44.9 tons per hectare.
While they beat out GB, this average is still below the last couple of years. Increased area planted from 23,600 hectare to 26,300 hectare is the cause, which resulted in an output of 1,223,000 tons in total.
"With the smaller GB crop this year, prices have already reacted and are at higher levels than last year. So, for example, Scottish Grade 1 packing whites wetre averaging 208 pounds/t ex-farm in the first week of December, compared to 155 pounds/t in the same week a year ago."
"Also the price differential between Scottish and English packing whites and maris piper, is widening - while Scottish prices have been rising, English prices have been rising faster. The wider the diference gets, the more likely Scottish supplies are to head south as English-based buyers look towards cheaper supplies." AHDB Potatoes Analyst, Arthur Marshall, said.
