Bangladesh: Potato farmers passing busy time in Bogra
The farmers of Bogra district are passing busy time sowing early variety potato on having harvested short duration T-Aman BINA-7 Dhan, apparently in a bid to recoup the losses they incurred last year.

The farmers are seen working eagerly to produce bumper potato in this season as they got a good time after harvesting the crops. The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has set a target of potato cultivation at 52,000 hectares of land in twelve upazilas in Bogra district during the current Rabi season with a production target of 18.15 tonnes per hectare. The target is likely to exceed as farmers including a large number of sharecroppers, especially in the chars (newly emerged landmass) in river basin areas, are expected to cultivate potato on larger areas of land than the previous season. To make the programme a grand success, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation, Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute and a number of NGOs have taken steps to provide quality potato seeds among the farmers to ensure its proper cultivation.
