Bhutan: Potato growers blame seedlings for poor harvest
Potato growers in Bhutan believe their poor harvest this year is due to the poor quality seeds that Tashi Agriculture Sales and Services (TASS) distributed.

Only half of what potato growers produced in previous years was harvested this year. The problem according to villagers were the potato seedlings, which they bought from TASS.
A bag of potato seedling was bought for Nu 1,300 per bag. The bags of potatoes sold by TASS apparently had a mixture of good and bad seedlings.Although some growers do not want to complain about the agency distributing poor quality seedlings, many say they no longer want to deal with the agency.
TASS representative Tashi said the seedlings and fertilizers are all bought from Druk Seeds in Paro. "Some seedlings have shown good results, while some did not. It also depends on the weather," said the representative.
