China: Large storage for crisp potatoes in the cold north of China

In 2011 Henwei decided to realise a storage for 20,000 tonnes of crisp potatoes in Chifeng city. This place is located in the cold north of China close to the areas in which potatoes are cultivated. Mooij representative Luke, also director of Beijing HMA New-Tech Co. Ltd was involved in the project from the start.

Thanks to the years of experience in the country and the solution focused method of work of Mooij Agro, a customer specific storage was designed, in which the isolation received special attention. In this storage place it is possible to watch the temperature of the potatoes, even with temperature swings of 40+ degrees between the potatoes and the outside temperature. This is even without condensation water on the roof.

The moisturising system, which works using ventilators, makes it possible to maintain the 95% + RV. This means the storage capacity can be raised without creating pressure points. The CO2 sensor means that the air is refreshed on time. The software makes sure the engine hatches are controlled in the right way and at the right time, so that the right hatch opening is formed to create the best "air-mix". This means the potatoes don’t get too cold during the air freshening process, even when there is an outside temperature of over -30 degrees C.

The storage for 20,000 tonnes of crisp potatoes was ready in August 2012. Partially thanks to the good result and the perfect collaboration between parties the storage was doubled in 2013 with another 20,000 tonnes capacity.

Soon after this in 2015, another doubling of the capacity took place at the same location, with 40,000 tonnes of storage. In total 80,000 tonnes of crisps are being stored to satisfaction by Hengwei. All equipped with the Mooij Agro ventilation system.
