Italia: New potato season started in Sicily
The 2016 new potato campaign has just started at Antonio Ruggiero SpA. The produce comes from Sicily and is of good quality. The campaign should last until June.
Company managers say "it is still too early to make forecasts but we are expecting good volumes as more plants were sowed. Quality should also be good because the weather has been nice."
"As usual, the new produce is popular because it is fresh. Prices are €0.50/0.55 from Sicily."
At the moment, competition comes from Spain, Israel and Tunisia, "though their produce has different characteristics and therefore has a different placement on the domestic market."
