Technical Information: Optimus in potatoes, the key tool against the risk of frost in Córdoba
In the current productive context of potato cultivation in the province of Córdoba, where conditions are predisposing to frost, heat stress and abundant rainfall, the use of physiological tools takes on a central role.
In this scenario, Optimus®, developed by Brometan SRL, is positioned as a strategic technology to support the crop in critical moments.
Optimus® is an NPK formulation with amino acids that acts as a dual-action plant fortifier and elicitor, improving tolerance to abiotic stress (such as low temperatures) and strengthening the plant’s response to adverse conditions. Its high potassium concentration helps increase cellular osmotic potential, promoting water regulation and reducing the risk of freezing damage in sensitive tissues.
According to Agricultural Engineer Carlos Tajan, Head of Potato Cultivation, “in situations of frost risk, the use of Optimus® allows improving the physiological state of the crop, raising the osmotic potential and reducing the impact of the cold on the tissues, which translates into greater productive stability.”
For his part, Agricultural Engineer Ignacio Álvarez, Development Technician at Brometan, highlighted: “In addition to the nutritional effect, Optimus® has an elicitor action that activates defense mechanisms in the plant, generating a more efficient response to stress conditions, something key in environments like those of Córdoba, where these events can be decisive.”
The technical team highlights that its application is easily integrated into management programs, providing comprehensive protection during times of high crop sensitivity.
In campaigns where the weather largely determines the outcome, proactive stress management makes all the difference.
