Grecia: Potato harvest in Messenia to start early April
Prospects are good for potato producers in Messinia, Greece. This year, fewer hectares have been planted due to a lack of liquidity, but the weather has so far been favourable and yields are expected to be good.

The harvest is planned to start in early April and the big question is how producer prices will fluctuate.
Mr Petros Vlachogeorgakopoulos, president of AC Messenia, interviewed by Agrotypos, said: "This year we had a good winter, with high temperatures. We expect to have a good production. Lack of liquidity has resulted in a large reduction is the acreage (og about 25%). The harvest is expected to start from 5 April.
As every year, the goal is to be able to meet the growing demand usually registered during Easter. Regarding producer prices, they will largely depend on imports, since potatoes have very high cultivation costs. Consequently, if producers are unable to make a good income this year, it will become very difficult for potato cultivation to continue in the region."
