Francia: New logo early French potatoes
The CNIPT is adding a “primeur de France” logo to early potatoes. These early potatoes must be harvested within the year before they reach complete maturity, and can only be commercialised until the 15th August each year.
These freshly harvested potatoes are fragile and must be “protected and handled with the greatest care” according to the CNIPT.
Mature potatoes for consumption that were harvested during the year must be differentiated from ware potatoes from the previous autumn harvest. In order to identify potatoes that have been grown and harvested in France, they will be called the “new harvest”.
The CNIPT explains that “This denomination is for marketing purposes, it will not exclude the regulatory mention “potatoes for consumption” or “firm fleshed potatoes for consumption”.
The CNIPT ensures that there will not be a shortage of stock before the early potatoes thanks to “quality (stocks) that are always available”.
