Italia: Long, positive new potato campaign for Selenella

Due to the lack of produce that characterised the previous season, the Consorzio Patata Italiana di Qualità decided to plan ahead, which seems to have been the right choice.

"Quality is excellent - flavour is delicate and the flesh is compact. We can say the 2016 campaign exceeded expectations and producers are satisfied with profit margins," explains Giuliano Mengoli, Director of the consortium and owner of the Selenella brand.

Volumes collected were 62% higher than last year and sales increased by 53% - Selenella has therefore been confirmed as the potato variety favoured by Italians.

Now that the new potato campaign is over, "the commercialisation of traditional Selenella potatoes has started. Expectations are high for what concerns both quantities and quality, especially thanks to the cool rainy weather of the past few months."

"To counter the instability of agricultural prices, Selenella developed the Qualità e Tutela del Valore project. It aims at guaranteeing high-quality produce, implementing stricter specifications and recognising fair margins to the entire production chain to guarantee economic sustainability."
