Turkia: Turkey resumes potato, onion exports to Syria

Import authorisation has been granted to Turkish exporters after two years, and the first cargo of 1000 tonnes of potatoes and onions has been sent to Syrian rebel-controlled areas by the Cilvegözü border gate, from Turkey.

The owner of an import, export and customs operations company in Hatay city near the Syrian border, says traders waited two years for the authorization. The granting of the export license, in exchange for imported goods, means that not only import and export companies, but also transport companies which have been struggling since the start of the hostilities, can now take a breath. The Syrian people are in urgent need of food staples, such as potatoes, onions which are grown around Hatay.Source: milliyet.com
