Argeria: Potato exporters wait for days at Tunisian border

Algerian potato exporters are being forced to wait for days at the Tunisian border crossing point of Tebessa.

Although all the legal procedures are being followed by the exporters, they allege that the Tunisian customs are not allowing the trucks carrying tons of potatoes to enter the country.

The exporters waited at the crossing point for four days. Then, they received the go-ahead after the potatoes had been meticulously checked.

Algeria and Tunisia signed an agreement as part of the Arab Trade Organization. Yet, Tunisian authorities are rejecting Algerian agricultural products.

Exporters told Echorouk the color of their potatoes had changed because the Tunisian authorities took such a long time to deliver documents to the operators. They called on Algerian authorities to intervene and put an end to this issue. Their products may be damaged as they were waiting for four days under the sun.
