India: Potato farmers throwing away produce amid demonetisation fiasco
Ever since the Indian Prime Minister ordered the demonetisation move on November 8th, farmers have been in trouble.

Agra produces over 8 percent of the country’s total potato production and the crop this year has created enormous stocks of potatoes on the farms.
The farmers had been stockpiling these potatoes at the farms in the hope that, once things settle down, the demand will rise and prices along with them. But the demonetization by PM Modi killed those hopes, forcing the farmers to throw away their potatoes instead of stocking in the cold storages due to a lack of pay for the service in the middle of the cash crunch.
