Francia: France expands potato acreage by 3.6%
According to a joint press release from the Union of Potato Producers and the sector’s Interprofessional organization, the potato acreage in France has reached 142,710 hectares, which is 3.6% more than in 2017, when there were 137,720 hectares.
It is worth noting that in the previous campaign, there had already been a significant 5.1% growth.
These new hectares are mainly located in Hauts-de-France (+2,970 ha), in the Centre-Val de Loire region (+1,540 ha) and in Champagne-Ardenne (+550 ha).
The Hauts-de-France region alone accounts for more than 63% of the French potato acreage.
Regarding yields, it will be necessary to see how the crop’s cultivation develops, but it is important to take into account both the delays in the plantings and the damages caused by storms or abrupt climate changes.
