España : Start of potato sales in Castile-Leon
One week in advance compared to last season, when sales started on 25 August, potatoes have hit the Market of Salamanca with prices that confirm the moderate optimism in the sector, result of a reduction in the acreage in Castile-Leon, from 20,687

The largest reduction in the acreage has been registered in Salamanca, with a 14% drop, going from 4,800 hectares in 2014 to 4,119 right now, followed by Valladolid, with a 12.7% drop, down to 5,037 hectares. Thus, in this first week of trading, the "Jaerla" has stood at 115 Euro per tonne, the "Red scarlet, desiree" cost 130 Euro and the "Agria" reached 175 Euro; prices which are far above those of the previous season, when they reached 40, 40 and 70 Euro, respectively, although far from those achieved in 2013, when, for example, the "Jaerla" and "Red scarlet" reached 240 and 190 Euro.Growers are advised to keep calm and to try maintaining the levels set by the market as the best formula to ensure a smooth campaign in terms of prices.
