India: Odisha potato production falls short
The State produced a total of 2.68 lakh metric tonnes of potato in 2014-15 which would meet only 20 per cent need of the State.

This was informed Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy in the Assembly when replying to a question put by BJD member Ayub Khan on Wednesday.Minister Maharathy said the Government has purchased a total of 465.30 metric tonnes of potato from farmers through the Markfed. He said the Government is providing incentives to farmers to take up potato farming on more patches of land though the Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana and the State Plan.
A Potato Mission is being implemented to make the State self-sufficient in potato production.He said that the State Government has planned to set up 112 cold stores to preserve potato and made a provision to provide 55 to 70 per cent of subsidies to farmers for the purpose.
