Alemania: Potato prices for producers remain stable

The yield varies strongly partly due to the wide range of potato sizes. The quality of the potatoes is mostly good, in individual cases wet rot has occurred. The sales are normal. The stocking activities are slowly ending, the customers senthusiasm is low. The prices for peeled potatoes remained at the same level as the previous week and there is no pressure.

Brandenburg

In ideal weather the harvest goes forward quickly. Several farms have finished the potato harvest, but some are delaying the harvest of some variety to cope with the loose peels. The price for producers remained at the same levels as the previous weeks. After the end of the harvest a positive price trend for the producers is expected due to the smaller amounts of supply available. No quality problems are mentioned. The sales are unsatisfactory and special offers still have little or no effect. The prices for peeled potatoes remained stable, however in Berlin the prices dropped a little.

Sachsen

The prices in the potato trade remained at the same level as the previous week. The predicted yield by the Federal Ministry or Agriculture (at the moment 9.9% below average) suggests producer-friendly prices. The sunny late summer weather is excellent for the harvest conditions and the stocking is going smoothly. The potato quality is good, in single cases potato rot occurred. If shelf live is sufficient it has to be proven during storage. The prices for peeled potatoes remained stable at the level of the previous week.

Sachsen-Anhalt

The price level remains extremely stable. The low quantity of the harvest fixates the trade. Batches with an extremely good quality have the potential for increased prices. The quality of the potatoes is mostly good, the sizes are a bit smaller than average. The part of extra large potatoes is small. The potato harvest is in full swing during the right weather. The storage circumstances are excellent too due to the cold nights. The largest part of the harvest is stocked. Therefore a small part is available for the market. The shipping company reports a high demand that can only partly be met. Export is only limitedly possible. The prices for peeled potatoes remained stable. For processed potatoes the prices are between 11 and 13.50 Euro.

Thüringen

The harvest conditions have improved compared to last week. During the sunny weather the potato harvest is in full swing. The level of the prices remained stable for weeks on end. The trend remains stable due to the lower than average yield. The stored ones do not always achieve the desired sales. Customers are not in the habit of buying large batches of potatoes all at once. Therefore large packages of potatoes aren’t purchased as often anymore. The quality of potatoes is satisfactory. The prices for peeled potatoes remained stable at the level of the previous weeks.
