Colombia (Nariño): Seeking to promote the sustainability of potato cultivation
Fedepapa’s general manager, Richard Pérez, is visiting the department of Nariño to establish strategies to improve the quality of life of potato producers in the region.

During his tour of municipalities such as Carlosama, Ipiales, Aldana, and Guachucal, Pérez highlighted the federation’s commitment to the profitability and sustainability of potato farming. "We want it to be a profitable and sustainable business. We are investing in seed projects and developing more disease-resistant varieties. In addition, we are seeking access to subsidies and working hand in hand with farmers," he stated.
One of the main projects promoted in the region is the industrialization of potatoes, which seeks to transform the product and generate added value for local producers. This initiative is already underway.
The manager also announced that approximately 3,500 packages of certified seed will be delivered by the end of July, benefiting approximately 300 producers. This will be the first of several delivery cycles, all organized under a structured planning agenda.
Pérez also highlighted the strengthening of farmer partnerships and the collaboration with more than 11 working committees in 21 municipalities in the department. "We are working locally and connecting with more institutions whose proposals will help us strengthen the potato supply chain. In the midst of this crisis, we must seek alternatives because the countryside must continue to produce," he concluded.
