Belgium: Early French fries potatoes are worth almost nothing
The Belgian trade association Belgapom is quoting only 1.50 euros for 100 kilos of early French fries potatoes this week.

Just last week, Belgapom launched the quotation for potatoes from the 2025 harvest intended for the processing industry at 5 euros per 100 kilos. This week, the price paid has almost completely disappeared, and the potatoes have become almost worthless. Belgapom’s quotation is established with representatives from the potato trade and the processing industry. The quotation commission reports that the market is weak, with supply far exceeding demand.
Neither PotatoNL nor Viaverda-Fiwap in Belgium listed any French fries potatoes from the 2025 harvest this week. Both listings are reporting too few transactions to provide a reliable price indication. The EEX potato futures market is currently reporting a futures price of €10.10 per 100 kilos for French fries potatoes for delivery in April 2026.
The moderate price formation on the potato market is primarily due to the prolonged availability of potatoes from the old harvest. This year also sees a significant expansion of the cultivation area for French fry potatoes in Northwest Europe. Moreover, it’s an early season, with potatoes ripening two to sometimes even three weeks earlier than the multi-year average.
