Brazil: Potato prices continue to fall in major wholesale markets.
An increase is expected in October
Potato prices closed this week (September 15-19) with an average of R$31/sc in the wholesale markets of São Paulo (-5.9%), R$31/sc in Rio de Janeiro (-7.3%) and R$31/sc (-9.9%) in Belo Horizonte (MG).
The pressure comes mainly from increased supply as the harvest progresses.
In addition to the limited activity in recent weeks due to low prices and transportation difficulties, rising temperatures reinforce the need to increase harvested area to avoid production and quality losses.
A price recovery is expected in October, with the slowdown of the winter harvest, especially in Vargem Grande do Sul (SP).
