Peru (Apurímac): Promoting the production of native potatoes in Coyllurqui

The project entitled Improvement of productive capacities of native potato cultivation through demonstration modules in the localities of the district of Coyllurqui is carried out in the Apurímac region, Peru, with the purpose of boosting productivity and strengthening the skills of local farmers.

In recent days, the technical team led a field visit to assess the progress of crops planted in several communities located in the highlands of the district. During this visit, it was confirmed that the native potato crops are in full bloom, thanks to favorable environmental conditions and collaborative work with the community members.

The inspection was led by the Economic Development Manager, Engineer César Augusto Ortiz de Zevallos, along with the project manager, Engineer Jorge Segovia Callañaupa, and the corresponding technical team. This effort aims to improve the competitiveness of local producers by increasing production and integrating new varieties of native potatoes.

As part of the project activities, construction is also underway on eight modules for storing agricultural products in selected communities, including Acpitán, Chiscahuaylla, Chuyllullo, Ayumaqui, Sijahui, Patarcancha, Sorcco, and Llaulliyoc. These rustic facilities will be key to ensuring better crop preservation and optimizing their marketing.

Furthermore, project managers continue to conduct ongoing monitoring and inspections to ensure the project meets its objectives and that this important initiative succeeds. These actions aim to directly impact the agricultural and economic development of 19 communities in the district, including Ayahuillca, Ayumaqui, Chahuay, Chiscahuaylla, Chuyllullo, Huancuire, Llaulliyoc, Acpitán, Manasqui, Ñahuinlla, Pallparo, Pamputa, Patahuasi, Patarcancha, Pfaco, Sijahui, Sorcco, Vilcaro, and Yadquire.
