Turquía: First white potatoes to be harvested in October
Potato growers in Tokat’s Başçiftlik province are getting ready to harvest Turkey’s first white potato on the 1st of October with a big celebration.

The potato has been trade marked “Başçiftlik beyazı” after the name of the province close to the Black Sea in Northern Turkey.
Murat Tuncel, Başçiftlik Mayor, emphasizes that the region’s high altitude and the use of natural methods in planting and growing gives the potato its distinct flavour. According to Tuncel, it is consumers’ potato of choice particularly for roasting, frying and pasties.
