Hungría: Hungary’s potato imports rose by 11% in 2016
Because of a reduction in Hungary’s potato production, there has been a greater need for imports this year. The volume purchased from other countries in the first eight months of the year has increased by 11 percent compared to the same period a year
At the Budapest wholesale market, the average domestic price of potatoes at origin has been higher compared to last year. Between weeks 15 and 24, prices were lower, but later, in the period from July to November 2016, they recorded increases compared to the same months of 2015. Depending on the variety, there have been significant differences when it came to prices at origin: the lowest price was recorded by the Fabiola (HUF 95/kg, about 0.30 Euro/kg), while the highest was reached by the Marabel (120 HUF/kg, about 0.38 Euro/kg).
