Bangladesh: Rangpur potato farmers see soaring profits
Recently potato prices have been soaring for Rangpur potato farmers. This is good news for the farmers, who are taking advantage of a lack of demand in the region.
The drought of potatoes was caused by a reluctance to harvest potatoes last year because of the low prices and a problem with seeds as well. Many farmers also sold early last year leaving the market low in supply.Presently a sack of potato is sold at Tk 2,300 to Tk 2,500. If sold at the going rate one can expect to make a profit of Tk 1,400 to Tk 1,600 per sack, he added.1 Tk = 0.0125716USD
