Suecia: Swedish potato production recovering
Swedish potato production is showing signs of recovery, with an estimated 553,000 tonnes expected this year.
Overall, this is a 5% increase over the numbers for 2015. This trend is showing a recovery for the crop in the country.
The increase in production is due to a push to develop more land for potato growing. The total area this year amounted to 17,300 hectares which was an increase of about 600 hectares or nearly 4 percent compared with last year’s area, which was at its lowest level.
The yield per hectare for starch potatoes is at 45 000 kilos per hectare or nearly 5 percent more than last year’s high yields per hectare and nearly 7 percent higher than the average over the last 5 years.
