Polonia: UK potatoes delisted from Polish supermarket
British potatoes have been delisted from a number of lines in Biedronka, Poland’s largest supermarket, due to fears of a no-deal Brexit. A large UK potato exporter has had to cancel orders with its growers as a result.

Overnight, the British exporter lost a market to which he sent a large number of potatoes every month. "We received an e-mail with information that from October 15 this year Biedronka will no longer buy potatoes from Great Britain," said the supplier in an interview.
As a result, his company, which acquires potatoes from around 100 farms, had to cancel orders from British farmers. "This is the first, real, financial blow we received because of Brexit."
He adds that for Biedronka - if Brexit arrives without agreement on October 31 - "it would be technically illegal if it still sold British potatoes on November 1".
Phytosanitary agreementsThe reason behind all this? If the United Kingdom leaves the EU without an agreement, it will have to reapply for a phytosanitary equivalence agreement to continue trading in fresh products.
Meanwhile, the EU has made it clear from the outset that no new trade agreements will be negotiated until Great Britain officially leaves the Community.
